Why Do We Design? –
Publication Design
Role: Editorial concept, magazine design, layout, research, visual system
Context: School project
Collaboration: Lilith Greta Meyer, Paul Meierkord, Justus Sartorius
Texts: W/K Journal
Supervision: Prof. Michael Gais
Year: 2025

In collaboration with Lilith Greta Meyer, Paul Meierkord, and Justus Sartorius, I worked on a magazine project featuring texts from W/K Journal. The project was supervised by Prof. Michael Gais and developed around the relationship between design practice, artistic research, and knowledge production.
The magazine began with an observation: some design projects do more than offer visual solutions. They do not only communicate, decorate, or shape information, but intervene in the world by making something visible, setting questions in motion, and opening up new ways of thinking. These projects create forms of knowledge that are not always easily expressed through language, but through form, atmosphere, tension, material, and visual structure.

The editorial concept explores design as a process of gaining knowledge. Rather than treating artistic research only as an institutional category, the magazine asks how designing itself can become a method of inquiry. The publication brings together theoretical texts, visual examples, and editorial design to examine how design can reveal, question, and produce understanding.
